CTIA-The Wireless Association is partnering with its international counterpart to produce a new U.S. event that will replace its annual Super Mobility trade show.
CTIA and the GSM Association—which is headquartered in London—recently announced the creation of "GSMA Mobile World Congress Americas, in partnership with CTIA." The new three-day event will debut in San Francisco Sept. 12, 2017, replacing CTIA's own trade show. The last CTIA Super Mobility show will be held in September of this year in Las Vegas.
The Mobile World Congress is the largest mobile industry trade show in the world. GSMA already holds a satellite conference in Shanghai, and now with CTIA's help, it is launching another satellite event for the Americas.
"We are very excited to be partnering with CTIA to create our first large-scale event in the United States," GSMA CEO John Hoffman said. "The North American mobile industry has been the strongest performing of any developed region globally, leading innovation in hardware, access technologies, operating systems and new apps and services that are scaling rapidly and changing how individuals live and work."
CTIA CEO Meredith Attwell Baker said the partnership between the two associations "will bring the world's attention to mobile innovation and opportunities from 5G to the Internet of Things and beyond."
"At the new event, CTIA looks forward to continuing to develop its policy-focused educational sessions and collaborate on the keynote program," she said. "Our joint event will provide the ideal platform to highlight the U.S. mobile industry and the impact it has for billions of people around the world."
The new conference will mark CTIA's return to San Francisco after the group pulled its trade show out of the city in 2010 in protest of an ordinance that required retailers to post warnings about alleged radiation dangers from cell phones. CTIA later sued the city, which axed the ordinance in 2013 as part of a legal settlement with the association. http://bit.ly/28XIcTC
